THE PEOPLE BEHIND STRENGTHZONE
ABOUT US
Experienced therapists in Uxbridge and virtually across Ontario
We’re therapists, but we’re people first
At Strengthzone, we believe struggle doesn’t mean you’re failing — it means you’re human. And being human also means you have the capacity to grow.
We started Strengthzone to create a place where therapy feels empowering, hopeful, and real. A place where individuals, couples, and families can bring the hard stuff into the open and discover new possibilities, one honest conversation at a time.
We’ve walked this road, too
Therapy can feel intimidating. Maybe you’ve tried it before and it didn’t help. Maybe you’re worried a therapist will take sides, or just sit back while you try to figure out what to say.
That’s not how we work.
We’re not distant experts hiding behind clipboards. We’re partners, parents, and people who have been through the trenches ourselves. We’ve been exactly where you are, and we know how much courage it takes to walk into a room and say, “something needs to change.”
That lived experience grounds our approach: we bring empathy and humanity into every session, alongside the evidence-based practices that help you create lasting change.
THERAPY THAT’S AS INDIVIDUAL AS YOU ARE
No two people, couples, or families come in with the same story. That’s why therapy here never looks exactly the same.
What you can count on is a safe, supportive space where you can slow down, be heard, and start seeing yourself and your relationships in new ways. We’ll help you uncover strengths you didn’t realize you had, explore the patterns that keep you stuck, and practice skills that carry into daily life—so the impact lasts well beyond the therapy room.
WHAT GUIDES US
The way we work comes back to what we believe in:
Real over perfect — we show up as people, not just clinical professionals.
Every story matters — compassion and empathy guide every conversation.
We’re in this together — therapy works best as a partnership.
Struggle is an opening, not an ending — conflict and challenge are chances to grow.
Hope is always within reach — no matter where you’re starting from.

Richard Bates, MA, RP
Registered Psychotherapist & Certified Imago Relationship Therapist
For the past 11 years, I’ve had the privilege of working as a therapist and counsellor in many different areas, including addictions, mental health, criminal justice, and crisis response. These experiences have taught me that while life can be unpredictable and often overwhelming, we are far more resilient than we realize.
I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Toronto. Along the way, I’ve pursued additional professional training in trauma, couples counselling, and advanced training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I am also a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist, which means I help couples move from conflict to connection by learning to listen, understand, and grow together.
In my practice, I work with both individuals and couples, and I also offer relationship co-therapy for couples, where two therapists work together as a team to guide couples in strengthening communication, healing old wounds, and rediscovering connection.
What I’ve learned — both through my work and in my own life — is that healing and growth come when we lean into our strengths, find clarity in our values, and allow ourselves to move gently through what feels difficult.

Jane Douglas, MSW, RSW
Social Worker, Psychotherapist & Certified Imago Relationship Therapist
I have worked as a Therapist and Social Worker for over 20 years with individuals, families, and couples. My journey has taken me across Ontario and overseas to the UK, where I gained a deep appreciation for the many ways people face challenges and discover resilience. I hold a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Windsor and a Master of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University, and over the years I have worked in community agencies, hospitals, and private practice.
What I’ve learned — both professionally and personally — is that no matter how stuck we may feel, change and growth are always possible. I enjoy supporting individuals who want to explore new ways of moving forward in life, and I am especially passionate about helping couples strengthen their communication and build lasting connection. As a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist, I guide couples in moving from conflict to understanding by fostering empathy, healing old wounds, and rediscovering the joy of being connected.
I work from a variety of lenses, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), trauma-informed approaches, and a humanistic perspective that honours each person’s unique story. I also offer relationship co-therapy, where two therapists work together with couples, modeling collaboration and providing balanced guidance to create deeper connection and understanding.

Erica Nagy, MA
Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
Doctoral Student - Clinical Psychology
I’m a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), and I’m passionate about supporting people of all ages as they navigate life’s challenges and discover their strengths. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with children, teens, and adults, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Intellectual Disability (ID), and ADHD. These experiences have taught me the importance of meeting each person where they are — with warmth, patience, and collaboration.
In therapy, I draw on a variety of evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), humanistic therapies, and Play Therapy. My goal isn’t just to apply techniques, but to create a safe, inclusive space where you feel heard and understood. I am also completing my PhD in clinical psychology, which continues to deepen my perspective and enrich the work I do with clients.
When we work together, we’ll start by exploring where you are right now and what feels most difficult. From there, we’ll create a plan that builds on your strengths, helps you move through obstacles, and supports your growth — whether you’re managing anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, life transitions, or neurodevelopmental differences. Most importantly, I want you to feel that therapy is a place where you can reconnect with yourself and begin to live in a way that feels more balanced, authentic, and fulfilling.
This is the part where things start to feel lighter.
Not because it’s easy, but because you don’t have to carry it alone.
